What's New with Books!

Grizzly 399 is Up and About Getting Ready for Hibernation

Beautiful 399 has been seen foraging for food getting ready for hibernation.  She looks very well considering that she is 26 years old.  As many of you may know, this year she released her four cubs to go out on their own. After all of her hard work to raise them, one of them has been killed by Wyoming Game & Fish authorities because he had become "highly human food conditioned."  See article.

From what we understand, her remaining four cubs are still doing well and have not gotten into trouble (we can only hope).

We also don't know if Grizzly 399 has any cubs in the oven! Wait till springtime!  In the meantime, we hope that she stays safe while she gets ready to go into her winter den.

Environmental Hero
We are happy to announce our new Environmental Hero for this quarter is David Casselman!

David Casselman, as he puts it, feels called to the herculean task of changing hearts and minds about the importance of helping animals and the planet. An accomplished civil trial lawyer, David spent decades doing pro bono work on animal rights cases in addition to successfully championing litigation and teaching law classes in California.

Now retired from law, he pursues his passion to protect animals and their environments full-time. He is the founder of the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary and has been actively involved in the Whale Sanctuary Project. He has also partnered up with Lek Chailert and Darrick Thompson with the Elephant Nature Park

As the founder of Ecoflix, the world’s first non-profit streaming service devoted to education about nature, animals and related ecological issues, David champions causes around the world. He hopes to use this avenue to reach like-minded people who are passionate and will take action to save animals and the planet.

Thank you David for making a difference!

What We're Following...
Queen Elizabeth an Environmentalist

As the world mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth, there are some important aspects worth mentioning.  She was a champion when it came to climate change and protecting our planet and its animals. She also promoted the environment by implementing simple every day habits advocating sustainability - including reuse and recycling of materials, organic food production, tree planting as some examples. In In 2018, the Queen teamed up with Sir David Attenborough on a nature documentary called The Queen's Green Planet.

She was also a lover of animals and especially corgi's!
Drought in Africa
Drought in Kenya and Impacts on Animals and Its People

Kenya is battling one of the most significant droughts they have ever had. And with it comes the considerable loss of wildlife. Green Kids has been working closely with our non-profit arm Love the Wild Foundation (www.lovethewild.org) to provide food for the villagers' cattle and goats as well as hay for wildlife outside the perimeter of the Oltome Community Village. The bottom photos show children receiving food through the program we are providing and the right-hand photo is of Edward our Program Manager with a zebra he has been trying to save.

World Rhino Day
September 22 is World Rhino Day

Today is World Rhino Day!  Green Kids Club has been working on rhino initiatives for many years. We have written and published two books with Saving the Survivors and also with the Rhino Orphanage. Both of these organizations work very hard to make a difference in the lives of rhinos that have been impacted by poaching.

The photo above shows Saving the Survivors working to save a rhino. Below we show a few of baby rhinos who now live at the Rhino Orphanage based in S. Africa.  And finally, a photo of Hope, a beautiful rhino that survived poaching due to the efforts of Dr. Johann Morais.

Roots and Shoots

Green Kids Club has been fortunate enough to meet Dr. Jane Goodall and hear her speak on the importance of educating our children about the environment and its animals. Many years ago she started Roots & Shoots to help make a difference with our children. Watch this video to learn more about her and the amazing work she has done.
