Patricia Homonylo

PATRICIA HOMONYLO is a filmmaker and wildlife photojournalist from Toronto, Canada. Her journey into wildlife conservation began nine years ago when she visited a wildlife rescue center, rekindling a passion for advocacy that traces back to her childhood.

Patricia learned that every rescued animal is a result of human interference. As wild habitats continue to diminish, wildlife struggles to survive. Her work sheds light on species caught in the crosshairs and advocates for the most vulnerable, giving agency to the causes that drive her.

“As creators and photographers, we have a critical role to play. We are witnesses, horn-blowers, advocates, fundraisers, and storytellers. By creating meaningful images, we move, educate, and inspire others into action. It is my joy and purpose to show people how powerful they are.”

Recently, Patricia won the 2024 Bird Photographer of the Year award with her compelling photo highlighting the impacts of bird-window collisions. This powerful image depicts 4,000 birds killed after flying into windows and other reflective surfaces in urban areas.

In addition, Patricia produced a video titled "When Worlds Collide," which explores the backstory behind her award-winning photo. This documentary covers the serious issue of bird-window collisions in Toronto, a problem that affects cities worldwide. Patricia has drawn attention to this alarming issue through her photo and video, advocating for change and solutions to address it.
